The president says the easiest way to get on the news is to be rude. What would an interview sound like that held to Mr. Obama’s vision of “disagreeing without being disagreeable”? It might go something like this:
Chris Matthews (hear after CM): Good evening! Tonight we speak with Ann Coulter on the subject of health care.
CM: Welcome, Ann!
AC: A pleasure to be here Chris!
CM: Let’s get right to it. You have said that you very respectfully disagree with the president’s plan for national health care. Can you elaborate?
AC: Certainly, Chris. I know that the president is very intelligent and has given this proposal much thought but I think it may have some small problems such as being too expensive.
CM: The president has said that it won’t be too expensive, and as you say; he is very smart. Do you have any other reservations?
AC: Yes, Chris. Although I have full confidence that the president has the best interests of the people in mind, I fear that some few of them may find they don’t really have a choice in insurance after it is enacted.
CM: Ann, the president has said that if you like your current insurance you can keep it. If for some reason, not through any fault of your own of course, you find yourself without a choice; isn’t that all the more reason to have a reliable government insurance program to fall back on?
AC: Well Chris, I know your very smart too but isn’t that kind of what I was saying?
CM: I think we will have to respectfully disagree at this point.
AC: I, of course, respect your disagreement and further hope that the president will not take offense if my remarks were too strident.
CM: It’s always a pleasure to have you on the show, Ann!
AC: Thank you very much of inviting me, Chris!
Sorry, but I think I prefer a more spirited debate. If the president is right about only having to be rude to get on television; what does that say about him doing 5 shows in a single day?
Except Fox because they’re rude!
