United States of America Dead at 233

Washington, DC – March 21st 2010

The United States of America, known to its friends simply as “The Republic”, passed away today after a long wasting illness.

The Republic was born July the 4th 1776 at Philadelphia, Pa. amid trouble and turmoil. According to some who were present, the delivery took nearly 7 years and many thought there was little chance that it would live to mature. Despite the difficulties, the Republic not only survived but thrived to become the biggest kid on the block.

Its successes resulted in the accumulation of a vast fortune that was shared by its extended family for generations. Its life became a beacon to all, attracting others who shared its love of freedom and liberty.

In the last century of its life it contracted a “progressive” wasting illness. It fought a long and courageous battle but ultimately it succumbed to the ravages of this terrible and debilitating disease that now threatens to consume the entire world.

Many thought that Obamacare might be the answer to this malady but it is thought that it actually sped its demise.

The Republic was predeceased by its mate of some 200 years, the Constitution. The couple had no children.

No funeral services are planned. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the agency of your choice toward finding a cure for “progressivism”.

Halt! Who goes there? Friend or Foe?

Lest we forget, and the president seems happy to remind us of the fact, climate change is still one of his top priorities. In his SOTU address he reiterated his desire to see Cap and Tax passed as part of his so-called Energy Bill, adding this statement, “I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change”.

He is just dead wrong. The public is becoming increasingly aware that the scientific evidence on climate change (formerly known as global warming) is a complete fraud! The president blithely ignores Climategate, as well as the near full on demand for the resignation of IPCC chairman Pachauri, over the discovery that, in complete violation of IPCC rules, huge amounts of the IPCC reports have been based upon sources that have not been peer reviewed.

According to an article last week in the UK’s Mail Online: “the IPCC was forced to apologise [sic] after wrongly claiming the Himalayan glaciers could vanish within 25 years. Critics have also accused it of exaggerating the risk of tropical storms and hurricanes.”

Further, today in the same Mail Online, the investigation of the University of East Anglia produced the following:

Scientists at the heart of the 'Climategate' email scandal broke the law when they refused to give raw data to the public, the privacy watchdog has ruled.
The Information Commissioner's office said University of East Anglia researchers breached the Freedom of Information Act when handling requests from climate change sceptics [sic].
But the scientists will escape prosecution because the offences took place more than six months ago
.”

So, what can we conclude from this information?

First, I would suggest that nobody hides data that irrefutably proves their theory. Duh? Would Sir Isaac Newton keep mum about his laws of motion? Would he say, “Yeah, I know why a body in motion tends to stay in motion but I’m not going tell you, take my word for it, the debate is over, now give me all your money!” Second, why is the statute of limitations on a trillion dollar fraud only six months? It took longer than that to catch Bernie Madoff and he didn’t steal nearly as much money, and yet, we still put him in jail.

In a previous post, I have already ventured into the increasingly disturbing revelations coming as a result of the close scrutiny now being given to the U.S.’s NCDC/GISS surface temperature data manipulations.

Now there is a new and detailed paper by Joseph D’Aleo and Anthony Watts (wattsupwiththat.com) on this very fast growing subject. Watts, who with a network of volunteers, has been engaged in a two year quest to do an onsite verification of station data gathering sites, now teams with D’Aleo to produce this paper titled, SURFACE TEMPERATURE RECORDS: POLICY DRIVEN DECEPTION?, now available at the SSPI website in PDF format. It’s a 100 pages but worth the read. It is the “It’s a Small World” ride through the miserable state of climate science, both here at home and abroad, and like the Disney ride, it will make you nuts if you’re over 5 years old!

For those of you not inclined to invest that kind of time, or perhaps, are already too close to the edge, Anthony Watts provides this short summary. “The short read: The surface record is a mess.” (sorry for the technical jargon)

Here is an example of one of our carefully placed surface temperature gathering stations; this one is of the NOAA USHCN COOP station at Hanksville, UT, sited over a grave. Photo by surfacestations volunteer Juan Slayton.

No, this has not been Photoshopped! This is how NOAA figures out our temperature data! Do you start to see the problem? This is the master database used by scientists and policy makers to determine what action to take about global warming! In the interests of full disclosure this not representative of all of the stations surveyed, some are worse, some are better.

No story about AGW or Climate Change, or whatever they are calling today, would be complete without getting a quote from that eminent climate scientist and outdoorsman, Osama bin Laden, who warned of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring "the wheels of the American economy" to a halt. That sounds about right, Cap and Tax should go a long way toward achieving that goal.

You probably didn’t realize that jihadis hate us for our carbon footprint more than anything. That might explain why they keep trying to blow up our Humvees.

OBL continued, “He blamed Western industrialized nations for hunger, desertification and floods across the globe, and called for "drastic solutions" to global warming, and "not solutions that partially reduce the effect of climate change.”

That rhetoric comes to you from the sworn enemy of people of United States. Oddly, the same statements come to us from Barack Obama, Al Gore, Dr. James Hansen, and many of our leading climate scientists and government leaders.

Are we to be persuaded that it is mere coincidence that Mr. Bin Laden’s solutions for destroying us, are the same as our president’s solutions for saving us?

Well, there you have it, Consensus! The debate is over! Burn you car, burn your house, quit your job, and go live in a cave!

Just a Few Thoughts

The president has called the lack of transparency over the health care bill a mistake. He’s right of course; the only bigger mistake would be letting the public see what’s going on!

The president has also said that he would rather be a really good one term president rather than listen to the voice of the people. Now, that’s the first thing he has said I think I can get behind!

If Indonesia tears down the Obama statue in Jakarta, is he still president?

Di(k (how come TH can run his name on the front page?) Morris says Pelosi and Reid are plotting a secret plan to pass Obamacare; I’m confused, I thought the whole thing was a secret?

People, not necessarily of the thinking variety, always seem to respond to the revelation that there have been yet more billions stuffed down the education rat hole, this time via the Porkulus bill, by saying, “How can you say that giving our kids a better education doesn't help our economy?” First, dollars don’t equal better education; it is a product of hard work and study. Second, even if it was true, in our current situation it would only produce a better educated class of unemployed people.

R.I.P. Air America! I guess they ran out of poor kids to steal from!

Obama recently showed up at a school, complete with teleprompters, to address a 6th grade class. Later it was learned that the teleprompters were for the media not the kids. Now I ask you, who asks tougher questions, 12 year olds or the media?

Man Made Warming is Real, It's Created by Scientists!

Somewhere out there, hidden among the faceless billions that inhabit our planet is a person who truly does deserve a Nobel Prize. He or She is the “Unknown Leaker” who released the information that set in motion the scandal now known as “Climategate”, and simultaneously, drove a stake through the heart of the Copenhagen Conference on Global Warming.

That data release found its way into the hands of a dedicated group of climate skeptics, including Stephen Mosher, Anthony Watts, and Steve McIntyre and faster than you can say “Al Gore”, the polar bear was out of the climate bag.

The weeks following that release featured reviews of the data which contained emails, code, and data sets that painted a clear picture of fraud and the abuses of power of a group of East Anglia University scientists at their Climate Research Unit, as well as, a number of complicities involving the IPCC, even “jumping the pond” to include American climate scientist, Michael “Hockey Stick” Mann, Penn State.

Now, a new chapter in this climate scam is unfolding. It takes time to sift the data and to really begin to understand the depth of what amounts to a worldwide con game. It now appears that the fraud has its roots in the U.S. climate community.

Marc Sheppard, writing in the American Thinker, started his article with this paragraph:

“Not surprisingly, the blatant corruption exposed at Britain’s premiere climate institute was not contained within the nation’s borders. Just months after the Climategate scandal broke, a new study has uncovered compelling evidence that our government’s principal climate centers have also been manipulating worldwide temperature data in order to fraudulently advance the global warming political agenda.”

The principal climate centers to which Sheppard refers are none other than the NOAA National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) and the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS). GISS you may recall is headed by none other that Dr. James “we’re all gonna' freeze, no, we’re all going to fry” Hansen.

A recent, and very regional, hour long TV presentation on KUSI, San Diego, hosted by Weather Channel founder, John Coleman, brought front and center E. Michael Smith, computer expert, and the man whose efforts to understand how the temperature increases might impact his life instead found the “smoking gun” in the American climate record.

Here is the short version of what he found.

There about 6000 thermometers worldwide that provides the basis for ground surface temperature data. Even in the age of satellites we are reliant on these thermometers for the information used by scientists and policy makers, alike.

Smith found that around 1990 NOAA dropped the number of thermometers they use to 1500. The thermometers are still there, and people are still reading them, according to Smith, NOAA just doesn’t use the data. Further, Smith found that there was a distinct bias in the way thermometers were dropped from the data. Apparently, NOAA doesn’t like to use the thermometers from cold places like mountains.

Smith gave this example:

“in California, only four stations remain – one in San Francisco (I understand it’s at the airport, think tarmac) and three in Southern L.A. near the beach
It is certainly impossible to compare it with the past record that had thermometers in the snowy mountains. So we can have no idea if California is warming or cooling by looking at the United States Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) data set or the Global Historical Climatology Network (GHCN) data set”

And this one:

In Canada they left “one thermometer for everything north of LAT 65.” And that one resides in a place called Eureka, which has been described as “The Garden Spot of the Arctic” due to its unusually moderate summers”

If that wasn’t bad enough, the data is further manipulated by a process known as homogenization. This process allows for extrapolating for areas that are now missing their thermometer data by using two thermometer readings from up to 1200 km away and then simply filling in with averages. Most of us non-scientists know this technique as “a wild guess”.

Bottom line: Our top climate scientists at NOAA and GISS are employing scientific methods, if what they are doing could truly be called science, that wouldn’t pass muster at an 8th grade Science Fair.

They have purposely manipulated data to support their claims of global warming and played havoc with our historical data. They have extorted billions of dollars from the taxpayers and with the assistance of willing politicians threatened our economy, if not our very way of life.

These people are the real climate criminals!

There is a much more detailed version of this available for those who are so inclined located at Watt’s Up with That.

Togo Gets It Wrong!

The day is coming to an end. The sun has settled below the horizon and the evening shadows begin to lengthen as a few stars begin to appear, the air is cooling and the promise of a balmy night is on the breeze.

Suddenly, the stillness is shattered by the crack of rifle fire! Pandemonium quickly ensures as the troops come instantly to the alert and begin to return fire. Then, above it all, goes up the all too familiar call of “Corpsman Up!” One of those rounds has found its mark.

This is a scene that has played out on every battlefield in history. It is a part of the profession of arms. It is a risk that is accepted by all who chose to serve their country in its armed forces, grim as it may be….it is part of the job.

What is not acceptable is to be shot down in cold blood by a fellow soldier in the middle of a stateside military base! This act is made worse by the fact that it was an avoidable event.

The recent report by Togo West concerning the Ft. Hood attack by Nidal Hasan is a tribute to political correctness and the wrong-headed thinking that drives it. It is a disgraceful whitewashing of what was clearly an Islamic terrorist attack. The report is insulting to the intelligence of anyone with two gray cells to rub together.

West’s suggestion that the attack had nothing to do with Islam and could just as easily come from a radicalized Christian boggles the mind.

While it is true that there was a failure of leadership in the Army chain of command, it begs the question of how that could come to be. I know too many serving officers to be convinced that our armed forces have been inundated by incompetents. No, the answer has to be in what constrained these officers from doing their duty when it comes to evaluating subordinates.

Political correctness is the culprit and it is killing our own people!

The forces of political correctness have turned Islamics into a protected species. A bad evaluation of Hasan would very likely have had a negative impact on the evaluating officer’s career, with no real impediment to Hasan’s advancement. This is unacceptable!

Political correctness is killing Americans, both here at home, and on the battlefield. This report is an outrage!

Here’s a clue for the hapless Mr. West. When a service member lectures on the virtues of radical Islam, even to the point that he has printed on his official business card, “Soldier of Allah”, that member does not belong in our military.

Military service is never without risks, even in time of peace. The fact that it is a dangerous occupation is unarguable; however, failing to properly identify an enemy, or worse ignoring their presence, as Mr. West has done, is deranged to the point of being suicidal. It is too much to ask of any military member!

A Few Observations

The Labor Department said earlier this month that employers cut 85,000 jobs in December, after adding only 4,000 in November. November's increase was the first in nearly two years, meanwhile, the Obama administration is preparing to handle applications from as many as 200,000 undocumented Haitian immigrants who want to live and work legally in the United States under a new immigration program unveiled last week in the aftermath of Haiti's destructive earthquake.

Is it just me, or does this make no sense at all? Florida has a higher rate of unemployment than the national average at 11.5%, where exactly are these people supposed to work?

Roll Call reports, Obama to travel to Nevada to campaign for Harry Reid next month.

Most of us are now familiar with the Gore Effect, Al shows up for a global warming event and they get record cold or blizzards. Are we beginning to see a Copenhagen Effect with Obama? Here’s hoping!!

Hugo Chavez (Maniac-Venezuela) said today that the U.S. Navy launched a weapon capable of inducing an earthquake off the shore of Haiti as a test for a future Iranian strike.

Question: If we have a weapon capable of something like that in the Navy's arsenal, why is Venezuela still there?

Yesterday’s biggest high? Scott Brown wins the “Mary Jo Kopeckne Memorial Seat” in the U.S. Senate!

Today’s biggest disappointment? Sarah Palin to campaign for John McAmnesty! Not smart, Sarah!
Ok, that last one will get me in trouble! HaHaHa! I just calls'em as I sees'em!

Brown Wins in MA!

The message? Simple. No democrat is safe! In honor of this momentous victory, I hereby declare by the power vested in by no one in particular, that today, January 20th 2010, shall be a National Day of Gloating and Ridicule. Happy Anniversary, Bat Ears!

Copenhagen a Resounding Success!

Since the end of the Copenhagen Climate Summit isn't until around the 18th of December, depending on the after parties. And, in the light of the fact that that date is getting close to the Christmas season, it seems prudent to write this story now.

Dateline: Copenhagen, December 19th 2009

"After weeks of exhausting negotiations it was announced, ten days from now, that the COP15 summit was a huge success. Although, falling short of any real hard agreements, a framework has been laid that will lead to significant emissions reductions in the coming years. This is being characterized as an historic moment in the fight to control human induced climate change with significant reductions of CO2 emissions, which are the sole cause of the warming that is currently devastating the planet."

I may not have gotten the wording just right but look for something similar from the "Circle of Commitment"; at least I think that is name the climate Star Chamber has chosen for itself. CO2, the great enemy of our time, will be on the run as our economy begins to take off with the addition of millions of heavily subsidized "green" jobs, which will provide the where with all to cover the flow of billions of dollars to the poor developing countries of the world, such as China. We all understand how hard pressed they are.

Yes, evil CO2 will be defeated in our time!

Here is an example of this dangerous gas, which constitutes .03 percent of the earth's atmosphere, doing its evil work
:

Let's face it! You have to ignore a tremendous amount of science to get to the conclusion drawn recently by the EPA finding which states that CO2 is a dangerous toxic gas. High concentrations of CO2 make for a verdant planet. A small point that scientists might want to keep in mind when thinking about how we will feed a growing population, and produce those renewable energy sources they are so fond of talking about. I doubt that killing all the plants on the planet is going to help in the long term!

BTW, all you budding Mr. Wizards out there can feel free to try this experiment at home. I guarantee it is perfectly safe and may indeed prove useful once we achieved third world status. Hint: potatoes, no matter how you spell'em, are highly nutritious and life sustaining, particularly when converted into Irish Poitin!

Hide the Decline!

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

Somewhere out there is a hacker who deserves a Nobel Prize! As you must know by now, a hacker/whistleblower released emails and data from the EAU CRU department. It wasn't up long, but these days that's all it takes for it to speed around the globe. The toothpaste is out of the tube! Now dubbed Climategate, it is generating lots of interest, and no small amount of comedy, as the administration and the MSM try ignore it and press ahead with Hopen-hagen (Tx, Skep!). Here's an example of the humor:

Anthony Watts, at Watt's Up With That?, (H/T), has posted two articles I found particularly useful in understanding exactly what was released and how to understand the spin that is popping up as the tax mongers try to engage in damage control. The first is a layman's version and the second is a much longer piece written by Willis Eschenbach, possibly the first FOIA requester to CRU, who lays out the emails interspersed with his own requests to CRU. This article places those emails in context as Eschenbach is able to provide both sides of the conversation and his remarks make it very clear exactly how much corruption is taking place in the scientific community. It is nothing short of the total corruption of the Scientific Method!

Given the scope of this corrupt behavior, which permeates the highest levels of the worldwide scientific community, the UN IPCC, and most major climate studies organizations; no policy decision can possibly be justified when based upon this scandal ridden research. Copenhagen should be canceled, cap and trade withdrawn, and all related CO2 programs stopped until legitimate peer review takes place and those responsible for perpetrating this hoax are severely dealt with.

As Eschenbach states in his article; skepticism is the basis of science! The debate is never over!

Here's Part of the Problem

I seem to located at least part of the problem with the Congress. Let me introduce you to one of my senators, Mark Warner. Not to be confused the RINO, John Warner, who is now retired, thank God. This Warner is a real live left-wing democrat. Since he was only elected in 2008 it may be a bit premature for me to expect that he would have read the constitution, much less understand it, in such a short period of time.

Let's examine his assertions. Mr Warner apparently operates under the impression that if congress passes a bill it becomes constitutional. He is absolutely correct in his identification of some of the unconstitutional transgressions of past congresses. There is no provision for Medicare, Medicaid, Education, or Health Care in general in the constitution; this IS what makes it unconstitutional in first place. It is not among the enumerated powers!

Not satisfied with digging himself into a deep hole, he continues to shovel. Did everybody get their telephone by virtue of their right to a telephone? Is that covered by the 1st Amendment? I have to pay for mine if I want one, but I can cancel it any time I wish without going to jail. You begin to see the problem here in Virginia. God save us, this is the smart one; Webb is not this bright!

Mark the Snark regurgitates the driver's license talking point without cognition of the fact that they are State licenses and not Federal, or acknowledging that no one is required to have a drivers license unless they want to drive. He actually got this talking point wrong. Note to Mark: the argument is supposed to equate auto insurance to health care!!! Ordinarily, I would let this go as the normal confusion of a neophyte senator, but this guy was Governor of Virginia!

I was positively stunned by his reference to the problem of "free riders" showing up for free health care at emergency rooms and the costs being passed on to the insurance paying public. Correct me if I"m wrong, but wasn't that as a result of action by the congress mandating that no one can be denied treatment at an emergency room, regardless of their ability to pay or even to be in the country legally?

What's his cure for this egregious problem? He wants to pass legislation in the form of national health care that passes these "free riders" from hospitals and insurance companies, that then pass the cost on to the insured, directly to the taxpayer who will pay for them in the form of higher taxes to pay for the subsides the "free riders" will receive under this legislation. Perfect logic! I'm convinced, where do I sign up?

Happy Birthday, Marines!

Today, November 10th 2009, marks the 234th anniversary of the founding of our beloved Corps. As this is being written Marines are carrying the fight to the enemies of our country in Afghanistan and Iraq and are on watch around the world; ready to fight at a moments notice wherever peace and freedom are threatened. Each one carries with them the knowledge of the courage and tradition built by those Marines that served before them and will add yet another glorious chapter to that history in the year ahead. To those who have earned the title Marine, former and active, I send a much deserved, Well Done!

Gearing Up for the Silly Season

Not quite a year after the last presidential election, we are being shyly courted by the 2012 hopefuls.

Sarah Palin "sort of" wrote a book and traveled to Asia to make a speech, Huckleberry and many of the usual suspects addressed the "values voters" who have already conducted a straw poll won by Huckleberry, and we are now being introduced to Governor Tim Pawlenty as an early top pick for 2012.

Mr. Pawlenty is not as well known to many conservatives as is the newest senator from his home state of Minnesota, Al Franken. This writer admits to a lack of any in depth knowledge of the republican Governor but given what the good citizens of MN have just contributed to the "swamp", he must seem like a raging right winger by comparison with Franken.

The news has reported that Pawlenty is gathering up "top strategists" from the Bush and McCain teams in an effort to build a possible campaign, although, as one might expect, he is denying that he has any particular aspirations at this time. Considering how well McCain's top people performed in the last election cycle, this may be an incredibly bad idea. And, given where Bush's popularity wound up, it seems even stranger.

Trying to keep an open mind about this possible candidate, I undertook to take a look at where he stands on some of the issues and found as Governor he raised taxes on tobacco by $.75  pack and tried to pass it off as a fee. More troubling was the recommendation of his Health Care Transformation Task Force, that health insurance should be mandatory. (sound familiar?)

Pawlenty, who is considered to be among the greenest Governors, right up there with Arnuld, imposed aggressive energy mandates on the utility companies. Not satisfied with the 20% figure some states have adopted (not really achievable with no infrastructure), he mandated that 30% of power generation come from wind, solar, and animal manure sources. Wind and solar energy barely register on a pie chart of energy sources nationwide. In fact it is just a plain black line on the chart, too small to even have a color assigned to it. Here's hoping MN has lots of animal hockey! In his favor, is his position on nuclear plants which he advocates strongly.

Also in the plus column is his position on illegal aliens. However, and you knew there had to be one, here is a quote from him concerning Globull Warming, you know it also as Climate Change, that really got my attention:

"It looks like we should have listened to President Carter," he told the Minnesota Climate Change Advisory Group. "He called us to action, and we should have listened. . . . Climate change is real. Human behavior is partly and may be a lot responsible. Those who don't think so are simply not right. We should not spend time on voices that say it's not real." - Tim Pawlenty

Honest, that was not an Al Gore quote!

I'll leave it to the reader to decide if a real conservative quotes Carter as the dispenser of wisdom. As for me, I think I like DeMint!
